Nohm Platform

Energy data, tools
and models.

Nohm combines energy data, demand and climate tools, models and specialist assistants. Use them to test a scenario and check the results.

Platform tools

Start with the data or a model.

Find the data you need, change a demand assumption or use an existing model.

01

Data

Start with the data the study needs.

NohmDB includes supply, demand, transport and storage data. Study the whole system or focus on zones and assets. Check the source of each input. Regional coverage will grow as local data and models are added.

02

Demand tools

Change a demand assumption and see its effect.

Build annual demand by sector, then calculate hourly demand. Change the share of electric vehicles in passenger transport and update the model input.

Annual pathways · subsectors · hourly profiles
03

Climate data

Compare climate years.

Test how low renewable output, temperature extremes and hydro conditions affect the results.

Climate years · extreme weather · study area
04

Adaptable models

Use the part of the model you need.

We are developing tools to extract part of a larger model, change its geography or detail, and add another resource. The original model remains available for comparison.

An example

What if more passenger journeys become electric?

Increase the share of electric vehicles in a passenger transport scenario. Then check annual demand, hourly load and the effect on the network.

  1. 01 / Set the assumption

Choose the passenger transport case and change the electric vehicle share.

  2. 02 / Check demand

Look at annual electricity demand and how it falls across the hours of the year.

  3. 03 / Run the case

Use that load in the model, with the climate year and network detail stated.

  4. 04 / Compare

Show what changed from the original case and which assumptions caused it.

How Nohm answers

Find data, analyse it or run a model.

Use existing data when it answers the question. Otherwise, analyse the data or run another scenario.

01

Find data or results

Retrieve

Find a source, input or earlier result and check where it came from.

Sourced
02

Compare the evidence

Analyse

Compare data, assumptions and model results to see what changed.

Calculated
03

Run another scenario

Simulate

Change a scenario, review the run and compare the results.

Modelled

How a study works

From question
to report.

Ask a question, review the plan, run the study and report the results. Nohm asks for approval before changes that need it.

  1. 01 / You ask

    Ask a study question

For example: how would a new hydrogen network affect renewable curtailment in Portugal during a dry year?

  2. 02 / You review

    Check the plan

Review the scope, assumptions and estimated cost before approving a run or change.

  3. 03 / The study runs

    Model and assess the results

Emil tests the system and Theo assesses the economics. Record the model version and assumptions with both results.

  4. 04 / You explain it

    Prepare the report

Lola prepares a report or presentation with the results and supporting evidence.

The model is one part
of the work.

Emil builds the model, Theo assesses its economics and Lola prepares the report. They use the same results and assumptions.
